Earlier this month we had the amazing opportunity to walk the step and repeat for Universal Kids Network, formally known as Sprout TV. Universal Kids, geared towards children ages 2-11, debuted Top Chef Jr where 12 young chefs compete for the coveted junior title. During a private tasting earlier in the day, I sat down with four of the young chefs from Top Chef Jr to discuss their cooking styles and what’s next for each of them.
Meet Henry, Kenzie, Fuller and Audrey from Top Chef Jr
“Top Chef Junior” will feature 12 young chefs aged 9-14 competing for the coveted junior title. Episodes will follow the culinary and emotional journeys of this next generation of chefs. Host Vanessa Lachey and head judge Curtis Stone will guide the chefs through some of Top Chef’s most iconic challenges, including “Restaurant Wars” and the “Conveyor Belt”, as well as brand new kid-friendly ones created exclusively for “Top Chef Junior.”
Henry is 13 and hopes to open a restaurant in Chicago someday. French cooking and technique is his preferred cuisine. His all-time favorite dish he’s cooked is French onion soup with his father.
Kenzie started cooking at age 3 and loves adding a southern twist to any dish. She’s a black belt and has many cooking dreams, including teaming up with fellow contestant, Audrey, to open a food truck.
Fuller has battled cancer most of his life. He’s currently in remission and loves cooking barbecue dishes. He once added BBQ to egg rolls and they turned out really good. He’s looking forward to competing in a cook off at The Alabama Food & Wine Show next year.
Audrey enjoys turning dishes from the world into gluten-free options because she is celiac. She loves meeting other kids who love to cook and aspires to be a food scientist, as well as open a gluten-free food truck.
Top Chef Jr is now airing!
Season 1 is currently airing on Universal Kids Friday nights at 8pm EST…..catch up On Demand if you’ve missed the first few episodes. We’re excited to tune-in and see who wins the first season!
