“Adventures in Babysitting” Interview with Sabrina Carpenter & Sofia Carson

Earlier this year, I gave you the inside scoop on the latest Disney Channel Original Movie – “Adventures in Babysitting” starring Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson. I was lucky enough to see the film back in April while covering the Captain America: Civil War interviews. Sabrina and Sofia were also in studio for a Q&A following the film, and I’m excited to share that interview with you guys today!

About “Adventures in Babysitting”:

“Adventures in Babysitting” brings together two unlikely friends when a tedious evening for contentious babysitters, Jenny Parker (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lola Perez (Sofia Carson), turns into an exciting journey in the big city. One of the kids has snuck away! The story unfolds when Jenny and Lola, two girls with distinctly different personalities, both interview for the same internship. Lola’s first attempt at babysitting takes an unforeseen turn after Jenny discovers what Lola has done.

While the girls are several years apart in age (Sofia is 23 and Sabrina, almost 17) – you couldn’t tell by their flawless skin. Both girls talked of having a true comradery on set and friendship outside of the studio. They also spoke of the 5 kids in the film and how professional they were – one of them joking that she’d love to babysit them.

When asked what is the funniest thing about one another, Sabrina riffed that Sofia is “not that funny, but she knows she’s not funny“. The girls laughed and Sofia agreed and said “good thing I’m an actress.”

We asked the girls about being selected for the roles, and they mentioned that Disney sought them out directly. Adding they were the first to interview (together) for the roles. Sofia also shared that she was a big fan of the original movie, and so was her mom. Adding, “So to be able to create a new version of such a classic, beloved tale for this new generation, was something I was honored to do. And it was an incredible experience.”

When asked about doing their own stunts, the girls shared an outtake scene where Sofia is running to the car during the beginning of the film and totally wiped out – adding that she has a big scar on her knee now. Sabrina added that there are a lot of bloopers of her driving in the car (because she can’t drive).

We asked the girls to share some of their own personal babysitting stories, and they didn’t have any experiences like in the movie. Sabrina did share that she once locked her babysitter out of the house because she “wasn’t a good one.”

Are you more like Lola or Jenny? Sofia shared, “I would say I’m kind of in between. Lola is this really cool free spirited young girl who isn’t afraid to just live life, despite the consequences of sometimes making irresponsible decisions. But she’s really passionate about her art.  I think we both are passionate about our music and acting.  And we’re both also independent girls. We have really strong, incredible moms and they taught us to represent girl power. Lola and Jenny are both like that. ” Both of the girls spoke highly of their moms, and families when asked about their role models growing up.

When asked about their favorite scenes, Sofia said besides the opening scene where the two girls meet in the film, she also loves the rap battle. Sabrina shared that she, “liked the Jenny makeover scene where she is kind of letting her hair down in a way where she can be a little bit more adventurous like Lola.”

What’s it like being in the public eye? Sofia mentions, “It is an honor to be able to be in a position where we can influence young girls.  And it’s a big responsibility, but it’s a beautiful responsibility because as we were growing up, we looked up to actors and singers to be our role models as well.” Sabrina adds, “I think the fact that we’ve been able to figure out those dreams and not only get to do them every day, but love what we do every day is hopefully an inspiration to girls everywhere, and boys, to figure out what they want to do.”
