Now that I live in Florida I am far away from my immediate family. I have a brother and three sisters, many with kids of their own now, and who are scattered throughout the US. Don’t get me wrong I love living in Florida, wearing shorts in the wintertime rocks, but I do miss spending time with my family.
When we do get together we have tons of fun. Normally we go to my mom’s lake house in Indiana and go waterskiing, wakeboarding, and have tube wars. Nothing beats jumping tube to tube trying to pull your siblings into the water, while your mom cheers you on from the boat.
Speaking of boats I remember going to Alaska with my dad and going fishing. We caught so many fish that we filled the back of the boat up with salmon, halibut, and ling cod. But my favorite thing to do with my dad is go golfing. We are both pretty competitive and if I win he blames it on his bad back or some other ailment, but I just like spending time with him.
As my grandparents get older I also reminisce about the times that my parents would drop me off at their house and my brother and I would catch tree frogs in their back yard, or sitting on the couch with them watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on the TV, trying to grasp how they were able to answer all the questions and riddles. I recently called my grandma to see how she was doing and she gave me the same reply as always, just getting older. Their favorite thing to do these days is go play bingo, and I have to say when I go to visit it is fun to play with them, but now that they are in their mid 80’s it is hard for them to get out of the house, so I suggested doing their favorite activities online. They can play bingo at Gala Bingo Online Slots, and still get the thrill of the bingo parlor in the convenience of their own home.
How often do you see your immediate family? What are some of your favorite family activities?
