Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean learning has to pause. Keep up with summer reading with Disney Publishing Books. To get more fluent in reading it takes practice and the more often children read, the more proficient they become. So don’t let summer slip away – keep your child’s brain active through reading to help them grow.
Whether your child loves to read, or struggles with it, parents can take an active approach at encouraging kids to build on their reading skills, especially over summer break. I do agree that children should have a “break”, but it doesn’t have to be a standstill one. To avoid what’s called the “summer slide” students are encouraged to stay active with reading to help them retain the essential skills they’ve learned. So what better way to get your kids excited about reading, than through familiar Disney characters like Dusty from PLANES, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Sofia the First, and more.
Disney Publishing released a Read-Along Storybook and CD for Disney’s PLANES Fire & Rescue, which hits theaters next month. Complete with music, sound effects, and character voices, kids will enjoy this new high-flying story. I was fortunate enough to be at the red carpet premiere of Disney’s PLANES last summer and really look forward to this sequel. Dusty was an instant favorite with my boys and they were really excited for the opportunity to learn about the new movie through this story. Look for Planes: Fire & Rescue Read-Along Storybook and CD in stores now and at amazon.com.
Sofia the First Princesses to the Rescue is a hardcover book written by Catherine Hapka. The story takes readers on a new adventure to the Kingdom of Wei-Ling where three brave princesses must help locate Prince James, who’s on the hunt for the treasure of the Jade Jaguar. The story also features another Disney favorite – Mulan, who helps the brave girls. The story is beautifully detailed and illustrated. You can find Sofia the First Princesses to the Rescue in stores now and at amazon.com.
My three year old shows favoritism towards books that include stickers, and this next book includes over 70 of them! Jake and the Never Land Pirates Cubby’s Mixed-Up Map brings you another swashbuckling tale. When Cubby tries to lead his friends to the Legendary Golden Dinghy treasure, Hook sneakily switches out Cubby’s map for a fake one. The story is familiar to the Disney show kids know and love and provides another fun adventure. Available in paperback, this new book can be located in stores now and amazon.com.
These are great summer reads any family can enjoy! Don’t forget to encourage your children to pick up a book this summer.

I use to love to read as a child, especially in the summer months when the public library always had fun incentive programs going! We try to keep the same tradition with our children. Thank you for the wonderful book recommendations! We will have to see if our library carries those books. : )
