Dear Little Man,
I am so proud of you! You are growing up to be such a fine young boy. You are smart, kind, funny, and a great big brother. I know that you like to be the center of attention and that is okay, but I hope you will continue to make good choices as you grow older. If your friends are making bad choices, I only hope you make the right decision to not follow their lead. Some children can be really cruel, and I do not ever want to hear that you are treating someone cruelly. Remember that time when that girl was making fun of you, and remember how it made you feel? It was not a good feeling. I want you to remember that when you see people making fun of other people, or treating other people in a way that would hurt their feelings. I want you to stand up to those kinds of people. My hope for you is to be a GIANT. I am not talking about Paul Bunyon, but I am talking about a person that does not shrink back when things get tough, but rather pushes forward and makes the right choices. Son, I want you to stand above the crowd and not follow it. Be a leader and stand up to bullies by saying, “that is not okay” and seeking the assistance of an adult. I love you and I have faith you will make the right choice.
Green Giant is partnering with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to develop The We Will Generation, an in-school student-to-student curriculum helping students understand how they can handle bullying. Please consider watching this short video clip about talking to your children about bullying.
I want to encourage all of our readers to write their own raise a Giant letter to their kids. Below is a helpful infographic with tips and tools for parents to get the conversation started. Let’s all raise a Giant, and fight bullying together.
