Summer is here and that means there’s a lot of fun in store! I thought what better way to kick off summer than with some fun crafts that will keep the kids entertained (hopefully) all summer long! This was our first attempt at crafting a no sew DIY Puppet Show Theater and puppets too! Using craft products we found mainly around the house, like a big cardboard box, markers and designer tape, we made a fun puppet theater for the kids!

We love entertaining, but Florida weather can get pretty hot during summer months. That can spoil outdoor dinners pretty quickly. Thankfully we’ve found an amazing solution – the Portacool Cyclone 3200!
Over Memorial Day weekend we hosted a dinner for family. It was in the 90’s most of the day, so we waited until close to sundown to begin our cookout. Since Florida is humid it was still pretty warm out. It was the perfect opportunity to test out our new portable evaporative air cooler. It’s on wheels and very easy to set up. Simply plug it in, attach a lawn hose, flip the pump switch and fan to on, and within minutes you’re cooling down outdoors. I like that it offers two fan levels and is way more powerful than a basic fan. It actually cools up to 700 square feet of space. [Read more…]
Summer is almost here! There’s nothing like a fun family project to get everyone excited for the summer fun. Today I’m sharing an easy DIY craft: how to make a wreath. More specifically, a summer door wreath. Here’s what you’ll need to get started!

When you become a homeowner the responsibilities can quickly pile up. Not only are you in charge of the lawn maintenance, but home repairs, and much more. Thankfully, a new program from the International Door Association (IDA) is helping homeowners stay on top of garage door maintenance with their twice-a-year emails!
GarageDoorCare.com offers simple tips to help keep a garage door working like it should. Did you know during a Harris Poll study in 2014, 34 percent of homeowners admit that no one in their household has ever personally tested the safety features on their garage door? And 27 percent say that their garage door’(s) hinges and rollers have never been lubricated!
Here’s some simple Garage Door Maintenance & Safety Tips to consider:

According to the new Florida law that went into effect Jan. 1, 2015 Florida families who replace or install battery-powered smoke alarms in their homes must use alarms powered by a sealed in 10 year battery.
In Florida, 114 residential fire deaths were reported by U.S. news media between Jan. 1 and Dec. 1, 2014. Of those incidents, 43 percent of the homes did not have alarms or working smoke alarms. While changing smoke alarm batteries can be tedious, it is important and can save someone’s life, even your own. The new law has actually made it easier for Florida homeowners by requiring a 10 year battery, which means you won’t have to replace them each daylight savings time (the previous recommendation).

I’ve come across a new product that I just had to share with you all! The Stair Barrier is going to be the next BIG thing. This stylish alternative to baby gates offers an effective way to protect children and pets from stair mishaps.

I’ve never liked those unsightly child safety gates. I’ve not found them to be successful at keeping kids secure, unless you choose the more permanent gate option, and even still those are not attractive in my opinion.

On New Year’s Eve of last year I shared a new idea our family was going to do: a Gratitude Jar. The inspiration behind the jar is to fill it with goals, moments not to be forgotten, and blessings (big or small). So often we can get in a rut of focusing on the negative and lose track of those positive moments. With the gratitude jar you and your family can wake up every day focusing on the positive and if something good happens that you want to remember, simply write it down.

Burlap and white accents are “in” for this years’ fall decor. On a recent trip to my local craft store I decided to pick up items to create our own wreath. While it may be simpler to buy a pre-made wreath, this tutorial will show you just how easy it is to pull of a hand crafted fall wreath in just a few simple steps. Even with store sale prices I was able to create this beautiful door wreath for less money, and with little time.

Do you know how many babies are born every day? According to sheknows.com 251 babies are born worldwide every minute (2014 US Census)! That’s a whole lot of celebrating!
Many thanks to Viva Vantage and Walmart for sponsoring today’s story and helping me clean up my messes!
All parents who have a baby or toddler can relate to this statement: kids make messes! Children have to learn coordination skills and that takes time, and a lot of patience on our part. Thankfully Viva® Vantage is helping us in the cleaning department with their revolutionary V-Flex* Weave, which provides a stretch that helps deliver great scrubbing power.
This review and giveaway was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Febreze. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.
Are you #Noseblind? It’s a concept I hadn’t thought of before, but after taking the Febreze Noseblind Challenge – I’ve learned that I am.
Febreze has some pretty creative commercials talking about the Noseblind test, and I was excited to give it a try. After my kit arrived, I invited my sister-in-law over for a fun movie night in. We each took a 5 question survey before getting started. It basically asked us what smells were prominent in my home. Since we have just moved in – the strongest odor is a “new” smell, like new carpet and cabinetry.
Do you ever host a girls night IN? Recently a friend of mine did, and we had a blast with this DIY project. It was so much fun, and surprisingly easy! This DIY Alcohol Ink Dyed Coasters project would be fun alone or in a group setting. The coasters can be used for many different ideas from wall art to gifts – just tie four coasters with a burlap ribbon and voila! In my case I decided to create coasters to be used for wall art.

We’re in the middle of summer and many families enjoy spending time outdoors. Although the summer provides attractive weather, it can heat up fast. When you head indoors you want to cool off. What if I told you that you could cool an entire room with the same amount of electricity as used for a standard 45 watt light bulb? It is possible with the eco-friendly Luma Comfort EC45S. The EC45S distributes refreshing cool air throughout your living space at a fraction of the cost of a room air conditioner. How amazing is that?!
Moving into a new home means we have a blank canvas to work with. I sat both boys down at the computer to look up bedroom themes for their new rooms. We came across Cozy Wall Art that offers an easy way to customize any room with pre-made wall decals.
Both boys were transitioning into their own bedrooms at our new home and excited to select their own wall colors and room decor. My little guy (L) decided on an aquarium themed room. He also requested not only fish wall decals, but real fish too. After talking it over with hubby we’ve agreed once we’re fully settled into our new place we will let the boys pick out pet fish.
For now, L was excited to pick out some new Fish Friends for his wall. The Fish Friends wall decal includes 10 unique fish and bubbles and is offered in 23 colors! Before we chose the wall decal color we needed to pick out paint for the walls. I took the boys to the paint store and L decided on this sea blue color. We then chose a complimentary silver wall decal color.
I am a World Market Ambassador. I’ve teamed up with WM for this sponsored opportunity. All opinions are my own.
As a World Market Ambassador, I get a heads up on what new trends are coming to stores. The Americana beach theme mirrored the decor I was selecting for the new home that we are building. Before I share all of the fun decor I picked up at World Market, I wanted to share this Strawberry Lemon Mini Bundt Cake recipe. Because what good is a party without food, right? 🙂 I was waiting in anticipation to shop the deals at World Market and create a fun Americana Beach Party for our family.
Buying a home can be a mix of emotions. Often things do not work out as planned and cause setbacks. Although that is the case in our situation, I still wanted to make the most of our family’s next chapter. With the help of my step-mom we planned a pre-celebratory party at her home.
These Mini Stars & Stripes Bundt Cakes are a great addition to an Americana Beach Party.
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Pier 1. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and to thank me for participating.
Close your eyes and envision: the sounds of waves crashing on shore, the compelling smells of salt water and tropical sunblock, feeling the sand between your toes and sun on your back, all while sipping your favorite cool beverage. That’s my idea of the perfect summer day. While you might not have the luxury of living in Florida where a game of summer roulette can help you decide on a different beach each day, you can bring the idea of summer to your backyard. Celebrate Summer with an Outdoor Oasis Party with the help of Pier 1 Imports.
These Simple DIY Lotion Bars are perfect for the craft lover or beginner. They also make a great activity to do with the kids over summer break. Using a few simple ingredients, and selecting the molds of your choosing, you can create these DIY Lotion Bars.

As many of you know, we’re in the process of selling our first home we purchased as a couple. Between packing and moving, there’s no better time than now to rid ourselves of things we no longer need. Something I feel passionate about is green living, and after going through several cabinets I noticed just how many cleaning products I have that are unnatural and toxic. I’ve decided that my next home will be a healthy home.
February is the peak of cold & flu season, and it seems like everywhere I turn on social media friends and family are miserable. What does your family do to stay safe and fight illnesses?
Here’s some Cold & Flu Prevention Tips courtesy of Lysol:
- Cleaning and disinfecting aren’t one in the same: cleaning only removes germs from surfaces, whereas disinfecting actually destroys them. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) The flu virus can live on surfaces for up to 48 hours, so it’s important to disinfect regularly.
- Talk about another reason to disinfect those surfaces regularly: children can touch and retouch more than 300 surfaces in just 30 minutes. Imagine how much you could protect them – and prevent them from spreading germs – by switching from cleaning to disinfecting! (CDC)
- Frequent hand washing is a key way to preventing cold and flu. However, one study found that the majority of respondents (53%) only wash their hands for 10 seconds or less after using the toilet when the optimal time for washing is 20 seconds. (Global Hygiene Council)
- Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes. This is how you transfer the germs that can make you sick.
- Some other recommendations from CDC include: getting plenty of sleep, managing stress, drinking plenty of fluids, and staying active.
- When out and about: In restrooms specifically, try to avoid touching surfaces like faucets, doorknobs and flush handles. Flush with your foot, and use your paper towel to turn water off and open the door to leave; then throw the towel away. (I totally do this!)
