Christmas may be over, but winter officially began Dec 21st this year. While there’s no snow in sight for Central Florida, the weather has turned chilly here and we decided to seek out a wintery food project for the kids. Hubby and I came across an adorable picture of Snowman Cupcakes and knew this was something simple enough for a 4-year-old, yet fun and tasty too!
Coffee is something that unites us as a community, country, and world. The smell is invigorating and recognizable no matter where you are.
On a recent trip to Wal-Mart I noticed a Starbucks Delicious Pairings display in the bakery section. I thought, what a neat idea. Just like with wine, it describes the flavors that pair well with each coffee.
“Although just moments from the bright lights and mega-resorts of the Las Vegas Strip, walking into Piero’s is like a trip back in time to “Old-style Vegas.” Casual yet elegant, patrons dine in intimate dining rooms surrounded by Aldo Luongo lithographs, original oils by José Bellver, and fresh floral displays scattered throughout the restaurant.”
Piero’s, a favorite haunt of the Rat Pack is just steps from the Las Vegas Convention Center. This hangout draws a mixed crowd of high-powered executives, to locals and vacationers alike, and at times Hollywood stars like Jennifer Aniston, John Travolta, and Shaq can be seen dining there.

I’m a traditional gal. I love to go home for the holidays and get that down home cooking that I grew up tasting. One of my favorite dishes that is always at the dessert table is my Granny Anne’s Lemon Cake. I honestly can’t remember a holiday meal without it! Isn’t dessert the best part of the meal anyway? 😉
Today I took my first crack at making her Lemon Cake recipe and I sure hope I made her proud.

Campbell’s has always been a staple in my home growing up. Today, I still carry on that tradition and use Campbell’s in my home cooked meals.
Although Campbell’s has been around since 1869, they continue to evolve with the times by creating current meal ideas. A perfect example is their new Skillet Sauces offered in 6 great-tasting varieties:
- Creamy Chipotle with Roasted Corn & Black Beans
- Marsala with Mushrooms & Garlic
- Thai Green Curry with Lemongrass & Basil
- Toasted Sesame with Garlic & Ginger
- Fire Roasted Tomato with Red Bell Peppers & Chiles
- Scampi with White Wine & Garlic
We received the Marsala, Toasted Sesame, and Creamy Chipotle skillet sauces to sample. Today, I’m going to be talking about the Marsala with Mushrooms & Garlic.
I am not a big drinker, although my two wine racks would prove otherwise. I love to have a variety of bottles on hand for when family comes to visit or if guests come over for dinner. I also enjoy drinking a glass or two of wine to compliment a nice meal. My wine of choice is a sweet white wine like a Pinot or Riesling.
That being said, I’m certainly not a wine connoisseur, although I’d love to be! We typically purchase our wine in a local store, which I’ve recently learned can actually be a “bulk wine” and not necessarily authentic from a winery. I was intrigued by The California Wine Club and excited to be on board to sample a few of their fine wines.
When I think of Gourmet food gifts I think of Omaha Steaks, a family business since 1917. Over the last few years, we’ve been lucky enough to receive several packages of Omaha Steaks products and thoroughly enjoyed them. So naturally when I began compiling a list of “must have” holiday gift items, Omaha Steaks was at the top of the list.

I was in the presence of culinary royalty this week! Emeril Lagasse was at Macy’s Orlando for a special cooking event where he was presenting a few of his famous sandwiches from his latest book Emeril’s Kicked-Up Sandwiches.
It was such a rare treat for myself to see Emeril live in person. He was charming, funny, and understandably enthusiastic about his sandwich recipes. During the presentation he mentioned a few words about working with bloggers and what a great experience that was. You can catch Emeril in his own words below:
My kids are huge fans of fruit. I’m always stocking up on apples, bananas, oranges, etcetera for their snacks and meals. While on a recent trip to Wal-Mart I came across some new fruit cup flavors by Del Monte. The Diced Apples & Pears with Caramel Flavor seemed fitting for the fall season so I grabbed a 4 pack for the boys.
I also picked up Diced Peaches with Cinnamon & Brown Sugar and Diced Pears with Vanilla & Spice for a healthy snack alternative. Plus they are perfectly sized for a lunch bag, making it easy on Mommy during those busy mornings.
Mmm! I love lasagna, but not how long it takes to make. I recently came across a skillet lasagna recipe that takes only 30 minutes from start to finish. As a busy Mom, this was a recipe I had to try. Just take a look at this deliciousness!
Although some people may not consider Florida as having “true” season changes, Floridians that live here year-round notice and embrace the changes. When fall arrives, the air transforms from hot and humid to crisp, cooler weather making it bearable for just about anyone to go outdoors. Even some of the leaves on our trees begin to change color. (Yes-we have more than just palm trees here people!)
Our fall traditions include visiting local pumpkin patches to find the perfect pumpkin, plus hay rides and corn mazes. This year the pumpkin patch we visited had bounce houses too. That was perfect for the kids!
In our home dinner time is the most important part of the day. It’s a time when all four of us sit down together (with no distractions) to talk about our day, while enjoying a great meal. On Fridays we mix it up by having a family game night after our dinner.
On my latest shopping trip to Wal-Mart I noticed a Dip Dip Hooray sign featuring Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Ore-Ida French Fries and Heinz Ketchup. This was a perfect meal solution for our busy week, plus it’s kid-friendly.
Tonight we had a family game night inspired by the Avengers movie. My kids are HUGE superhero fans so they were very excited for the occasion. As an extra treat I decided to bake an Avengers themed cake. I picked up the items I needed at the store and headed home to bake!
What you will need to make an Avengers Captain America Shield Cake:
Eggs, oil & water
1 large bowl
Blue and Red Glitter Icing
1 can of Vanilla Frosting
2 round cake pans
1 star cookie cutter
Captain America shield (or picture for reference)
This amazing simple dessert recipe is inspired by my Step Mom who has just returned from a 2 week European cruise. She couldn’t get enough of their English cookies and created this recipe to continue the experience. The No Bake English Cookie Recipe only calls for five ingredients and takes a matter of just a few minutes to complete.
