The winter weather is almost behind us! This weekend Central Florida showed signs of warmer weather on the horizon with comfortable temps in the mid 70’s. The boys enjoyed a fun day of play at the neighborhood playground. It’s a great place to meet other kids in their age group and for moms to chat too!
Let’s get active! Here’s 2 Playground Activities that are easy and fun!
Scavenger Hunts – doing a simple Google image search pulls up tons of Scavenger Hunt ideas – like nature or season-themed lists. If the kids are too young to read, draw or clip pictures to include in their list. It’s not only a fun activity, but a great learning tool!
Follow the Leader – bring a variety of outdoor items to the playground like balls, a hula hoop, buckets and more. Then use those items for creative ways to follow the leader while at the playground. It’s fun, creative play for the kids – and parents too!
Playground Facts:
- America’s kids are playing less than any previous generation.
- As play has decreased, obesity rates and behavioral and cognitive disorders have increased.
- Studies have shown that schools without recess face increased incidence in classroom behavioral problems, including violence and emotional outbursts.
- Kids who play are happier, smarter, and more social creatures — as are their communities!

There is a playground not too far from where we live, but we haven’t been there. James is getting older and not wanting to hang with us so much anymore…I envy you!
