I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
Now that school is out for summer, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America want to help parents and children alike get prepared for Internet Safety Month. Their cyber safety website offers an abundance of information and tools on how to keep kids safe while using the internet.
Are you a cyber smart parent? Take this quick 7 question quiz to find out!
Cyber bullying is happening way more than you think. Can you believe 1 in 3 teens have been a victim of cyber bullying? The site includes tips and printable discussion cards to help ease the talk between you and your children about cyber bullying and it’s effects.
Do you have mobile safety rules? Our kids are too young for their own cell phones, however they do enjoy playing our iPad/iPhone games. We have age appropriate apps in a designated folder on both devices just for them. That way they know this is a safe zone. We also have passwords on everything, including iTunes purchases so we can monitor the apps they play. The Cyber Safe Futures site offers tips, discussion cards, and resources for mobile smarts that’s definitely worth checking out.
Everyone’s on some sort of social networking site, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Youths are increasingly using technology, and as parents it’s important we stay in communication with our kids on what’s appropriate when using those sites. Again you can find helpful discussion cards, tips, and resources to have that talk with your child about safely using social media.
Do you set limits on personal information? Sharing pictures, videos, and texting are all part of a youth’s everyday experience online. Use these tips as a guide to speak with your children about protecting their privacy when online.
Thankfully, because of the industry I’m in I am always on the up and up when it comes to social media. Therefore because I model a technology based lifestyle, it’s only natural that my kids are interested as well. They impress me more each day with how natural they’ve become with tech products. And that’s why I set parameters to make sure my kids stay #CyberSafe.
