Hubby and I recently enjoyed a food and wine pairing at Fleming’s Steakhouse & Wine Bar. The tasting included a six course meal from their all new Bar la Carte Menu and Summer Lovin’ promotion. The menu offers Fleming’s guests six all-new satisfying dishes available any time. More substantial than appetizers or the typical “bar bites” found at many restaurants, the addition of this Bar la Carte menu makes Fleming’s bar as much a destination for food as it is for wine and cocktails.
Our tasting opened with the Cedar Roasted Mushroom & Artichoke Flatbread with Monterey Jack cheese, roasted red peppers and Christophe Ranch garlic. The dish was paired with Maso Canali, Pinot Grigio from Italy. The flatbread was quite delicious, and we couldn’t wait to taste more of what was to come! The crisp flavors from the Pinot Grigio complimented the flatbread wonderfully.
We then sampled the Mad Milagro Margarita which consisted of Milagro Silver Tequila, muddled cucumber and fresh lime juice, balanced with a touch of jalapeno and fresh cilantro. The Margarita flavors blended well together offering a fresh taste with a kick!
The second course included Fleming’s Housemade Burrata on a Toasted Garlic Crostini with Charred Grape Tomatoes and Wild Arugula and paired with Conundrum, White Blend from California. Burrata, meaning “buttered” in Italian, is fresh mozzarella with cream. It was absolutely delicious and comes highly recommended by both of us! The rich flavors from the Conundrum white wine was spot on.
Next up we sampled their Prime Steakhouse Meatballs in a Peppercorn Sauce with Shiitake Mushrooms. It was paired with Parducci, Petite Sirah Mendocino True Grit. Coming off the heels of a stand-out dish, the meatballs were a bit lost in the shuffle. The Parducci, dark ruby in color, included aromas of chocolate and mint with a spicy fruit flavors.
The fourth course was Fleming’s Original Prime Rib Melt with Swiss Cheese, Sauteed Mushrooms, Whole Grain Mustard, a side of au jus, and Horseradish Slaw. It paired nicely with Pascual Toso, Malbec Mendoza from Argentina. This was another stand-out dish from Fleming’s. The “sandwich” was hearty in flavor and quite delicious. This dish would be perfect for lunch or dinner.
Our fifth course was Filet Mignon Flatbread, with Danish Blue and Monterey Jack Cheeses topped with an Onion Confit. This dish was paired with Langmeil’s Three Gardens SMG Barossa from Australia. The Filet Mignon Flatbread packed a mean punch with the Asian flavors and blue cheese. It was scrumptious! If you are a big blue cheese fan, you’re in luck: this flavor really stands out.
The final course was right off their Summer Lovin’ menu, available until August 12. Fleming’s Steakhouse Prime New York Strip with Sweet & Spicy Rub, topped with savory tomato and roasted red pepper butter, chopped Marcona almonds, served summer zucchini slaw, was paired with South Seas Sangria, a blend of Sailor Jerry Rum, Vinedos Terranoble Sauvignon Blanc and Peach Schnapps, with fresh peaches, honeydew, oranges and lemons.
Wow, the Sangria was delicious and refreshing! The tomato and red pepper butter atop the NY Strip gave this juicy steak an all new flavor, making it another favorite of ours!
We couldn’t leave Fleming’s without sampling a few of their seafood dishes, so Sous Chef José created two of their most popular dishes for us. We enjoyed their Almond Battered Shrimp with habanero jelly, and New Bedford Scallops with Meyer lemon honey glaze, baby carrots, green beans and asparagus. Since I’m not a seafood fan, hubby enjoyed those dishes all on his own.
Fleming’s Summer Lovin’ Steak & Sangria special will feature Prime NY Strip with Crispy Gorgonzola, and Sailors Sunset Sangria August 13-26.
Also starting in August is Friday Wine Tasting, featuring six wines in August, and eight in September. You can call to pre-register for the wine tasting and receive a discounted price of $20 or pay $25 the day of.
We could not have had a better experience with managing partner Rebecca Gaines, and her Winter Park staff. Everyone was accommodating and personable. We look forward to visiting again very soon!
